Manual transmission oil change

I have a 2010 Ford Focus with manual transmission. I bought it from the original owner with about 48,000 miles in near mint condition, and it now has 63,000 miles on it (I bought it about 2.5 years ago and I don't drive much).

Lately I've been noticing the stick is a bit rough getting into first, second, or reverse gear, especially when it's cold out (I live on Iowa). I have no idea if the transmission oil was ever changed (probably not), but at this mileage and at 10 years of age, I think it's probably time and it might also fix that roughness.

If you agree, I wanted to ask - is it important to change the filling and draining plugs while I'm at it, and/or their respective washers/sealers? Or maybe I can keep the originals? My mechanic seems to advise against changing the oil at all, but even though he's good, I tend to disagree with him on this one. Thank you for your help, I love your channel!

Yea, I'd change it no second thought.  Yes, replace crush washers (is best but I've not always done so :  (

I would change it. Use Motorcraft® XTM5QS - Full Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid. It's a bit expense but it's made in Germany and one of the best manual transmission fluids you can buy.

I have never had a problem with reusing washers, but its good practice to just replace them. Replacing the actual drain and fill bolts seems kind of overkill though.
