Matching VIN to engine number

Hi Scotty, and friends. My mom recently sold me her old 2005 Lexus RX330. The transmission blew a week later. I just had it replaced with a used transmission with 106,000 miles on the tranny. The mechanic told me that the new transmission possibly came from a Highlander or Sienna. It doesn't drive the same anymore, and it is now making weird noises. I don't know if it's the new used transmission or that he could have pulled a fast one on me and switched the engine. Almost feels like a new car entirely. For reference I have been driving this car for years to help my parents with their small business. I was wondering if their is a way to match the VIN and engine number to be sure I have the original engine. Thank you

New trans from a different car than stock would make the car feel different. My question is why there was no trans of the same car but had to get a different model of trans. Kinda wierd.

I don't think the engine was switched out because well, why?... There would be absolutely no point in doing something like that. Idk what wierd noises are either, gotta be more specific since it's a full trans unit that was replaced. As for matching engine to vin, not possible, as block number and vins are different. The only thing would be to look up the stock engine for your car and see that it matches.

There should be numerous ways to verify this, but since (I assume) your mum purchased this vehicle brand new, check the original receipt from the dealership at the time of purchase. It should mention the VIN along with the original engine serial number.

Alternatively, contact your nearest Toyota dealer quoting your VIN, and ask them to look up the engine serial number, in their system.

Your easiest way out right now would be to get rid of it, as it seems you’re dealing with a rat’s nest and/or a possibly shady mechanic.
