My car is sluggish but I can't figure out why...

New question on my 2012 Honda Civic LX with 135,000 mi... I've noticed that for the past month the car has been extremely sluggish with acceleration. When on the highway it revs almost up to 4,500 RPM when shifting gears on a STRAIGHTAWAY (The shift pattern feels similar to when the car is in eco mode but I checked an eco mode is turned off).

There are no trouble codes when plugged up to my autel scan tool...I checked the air filter for the car and it's not dirty.... I replaced the spark plugs about 15 or 20,000 mi ago with new iridium plugs....haven't made any changes with regard to the gasoline that I use.

I tried to use one of those fuel treatments from Lucas that you add to a full tank of gas and there was practically no change with how the car is handling. Any suggestions on what I can try?

Clean your throttle body, MAF sensor and get some new spark plugs.

Also get a new air filter.

The spark plugs are essentially brand new... They were iridium and I replaced them somewhere between 15 and 20,000 mi ago... So that's not the problem

Also the air filter is a K&n reusable filter that I clean and recharge religiously every month... I've had This filter for almost 2 years now so that's not the problem

I will check the throttle body and mad sensor though

Does your car have a fuel filter change interval?

I can check the manual but had right around 100,000 mi so I'm pretty sure it haven't been changed

Well that's that lol looks like I'll just be doing a math sensor cleaning and a throttle body cleaning and see if that will take care of the problem

Unless you drive in extreme dusty & contaminated air quality conditions, I think you’ve ruined your MAF sensor by reoiling your K&N filter every month. It might be time to look for a specialist diagnostic technician to check if indeed your MAF sensor or something else.

Does it do when only you push the gas pedal hard or it does it anyway?

Why are you recharging your air filter?  By recharging, do you mean re-oiling?  If that's the case, you cannot use an oiled filter on a vehicle with a MAF and/or MAP sensor.  It can only be a dry filter.  The oil and it's attracted dirt foul the MAF sensor.  20K miles on  plugs is too long.  I change mine at 10K miles or once a year.  Replace your PCV valve, too.

Yes by recharging I mean re-oiling the filter. And You need to clarify what you said a little bit about the spark plugs... Because I don't know what kind of car you drive but if you're telling me you change your spark plugs every 10,000 mi? Then that makes absolutely no sense... Because per Scotty's videos and my past experience iridium spark plugs are not something that you need to change that often with their lifespan and upwards of 90,000 As long as you have regular oil changes

I don't use iridium spark plugs. I use old fashioned NGK plugs for a 1981 Toyota truck with a 22R engine and yes, I change them every 10K miles. Does it make sense to you now?

Yeah the stuff you're saying makes a lot more sense now lol We're dealing with a 31-year difference with regards to car parts technology and what not. Basic maintenance is maintenance but specific care for an 81 is going to vary quite a bit from a 2012

I'm going to do the throttle body and maf sensor cleaning as well as put in a new fuel filter. So I'm pretty sure between those three that should sort me out.

It sounds like you are doing everything right to me.

It's basically slow acceleration all the way around but I notice it more so when I'm on the highway trying to get up to speed... That's whenever the RPM gauge climbs the highest.

Pressure test the fuel pump, maybe it’s on its way out -
