2016 Chevy Spark Struts: Is this a dealer scam?

I have a 2016 Chevy spark LT. I went to a dealership to get a wheel and rim placed on my car it took them maybe 5-10mins when I went to grab my car they told me my front driver side strut needed replaced and it would cost me $900 to do so. I’m asking if this sounds like a scam and if it should really cost that much to replace it?

This is why you should never go to a dealership for service if you can help it. Are your struts leaking? Does the car bounce uncontrollably when hitting bumps? Take to a good independent shop for a 2nd opinion and a better price if the work does need to be done.

I’d have to take a look tomorrow if it’s leaking. It’s a small car I haven’t noticed excessive bouncing and my car doesn’t shake or anything.

I took a look doesn’t look like there leaking and when I touched it it was oily and the car doesn’t noise excessively

900 for one strut? That is insane.

You should never go to a stealership for any service, even under warranty or recall I cringe but at least there it is covered (for the most part).  Otherwise, they usually find something that they claim needs service and then charge outrageous amounts (also to cover their high overhead).

Find an honest, independent mechanic for a second opinion.

I personally am not sure if it truly needs done or not. I don’t understand how it came up not but not when they were doing our other tire and our alignment to me it sounds fishy.

Rock auto showing AC Delco, Left front is $130.79 for the strut, so they're likely charging $200. Probably quoting about 4-5 hours book time to replace. That's stupid ridiculous, $900 to change 1 strut. Get a 2nd opinion from a couple of independent shops.

This is what me and my partner thought why would they charge $900 for one strut? And if we bought the strut ourselves shouldn’t it only cost like maybe 300 or so to get it put on?

Buy the part and bring the part to an independent shop to install, forget the dealer.
