New car break-in.

Hyundai's break-in instructions are better than those suggested by most modern day sportbikes. Having followed them to the letter (and further with my 2021 Sonata N-Line), I am very interested in your opinion on break-in procedures. I live in western Colorado, and bought my Sonata N-Line more for fun than longevity, and enjoy tire squealing twisties and exploring the line. What is your opinion on proper engine break in vs. reliability and gas mileage? I averaged 34.5 mpg over 29 miles of high speed, steep switchbacks and sweet sweepers. Does break in matter in your opinion?

After in initial 20 minutes at 2k rpm (don't know if they bother at the factory any longer), for the first 5,000 miles keep your rpms varied as possible & don't let it idle for long.

You really want the engine speeds to be all over the place, worst thing you can do is hop on the highway & drive at a constant speed. Don't beat on it either, in other words be gentle with the throttle. You can bring it through the entire range but don't go through gears in a hurry.

This is just me but after the first 500 & 3000 miles I'd do oil changes to remove any bits that come apart during break in, after that go to normal oil change intervals.

Some people say drive it like you stole it, but I don't subscribe to this break-in procedure. What @RussellJKelly81 said 👍 couldn't have said it any better. I've done this for the last 40+ yrs of car ownership and it's always worked for me.
