Camry or Corolla.

Hybrid or non hybrid ?

Personally, I'd get non-hybrid Camry. the 4 cylinder gets 39 hwy which I was able to get when I had my 2018 Camry. My daily commute is 90% highway. Which you want to get depends on what your driving circumstances are. Also depends on what is available on your dealer lots and fits into your 30k budget. Around here, they all get scooped within a day or two of arrival.

I always tell people to get what your comfortable driving in for safety and then how long are you going to keep the car. You cant beat the Toyotas/Hondas/Mazdas for long term reliability as long as your religious on maintenance. My experience. Really long term, I would pass on a Hybrid.

If you like something with a sporty look and feel and can drive manual the Civic Si is a good option. If SUV then rav4 or crv. Corolla is a good compact sedan but isn't as sporty as the Civic in my opinion. If wanting for very long term then pass on hybrid.

Admittedly I don't know US prices, but you might be able to get a RAV4 Hybrid for that price. You haven't said what type of car you want, but if we're assuming SUV, RAV4 or Honda CRV are probably your best bets. You could probably get a top-spec Corolla or Civic (not R-spec) for that, but that comes with compromises on the ride quality. Modern Mazdas are a good purchase also, so consider the 3, or CX-5, or a 5.

In terms of hybrid, if you are looking to play it safe, get a Toyota hybrid. There technology has been around for 20+ years, time tested.

If you are looking to take a calculated risk, get a Honda hybrid. The current Honda hybrid is the third iteration, and completely different than their predecessors and even Toyota. It’s compelling technology, yet not time tested. Since it comes from a reputable company like Honda, I would be willing to take that calculated risk.
