I have a 2015 Nissan Sentra with 126K miles on it that I bought brand new. So far, I've had no issues with it other than replacing the A/C compressor. I drive mainly on the highway, like an old lady, with a lot of long distance trips. My daughter turns 16 next year. Since I know the transmission in my car is a Jatco cvt, even though I know it's history and it's not causing problems yet, should I keep it and give it to her or trade it in and pay more money but get a Toyota or Honda with 100K miles without knowing the history of it? How much does having gentle driving habits and highway mileage affect how long those (crappy) transmissions might last?
It all depends on how much you can get for it. I don’t know by you will get much so drive it until the it breaks.
How much can you get for it? If your getting ike 2500 bucks then don't sell it take care of it and drive it till the wheels fall off but I know the market where I am (norcal) they go for 7 8 9 grand in which case I'd sell it.
I don't really know, I imagine around 3-4K but I haven't explored anything yet. I'm in Mississippi so...I'm sure not anywhere close to $7k LOL
Its highway miles, so the best way to make it last is: keep up on the transmission fluid changes and tell your daughter not to drive like a maniac or else she won't have a car to drive.
Highway miles, that’s the winning solution....
So you think even with high mileage, the fact that I mostly drive highway makes it worth it to keep it?
I got 200,000 on mine and I owe nothing.....
I'm in the sell camp. Highway or not, I just can't trust a high mileage Nissan.
Update - I changed the transmission fluid, then a couple hundred miles later dropped the pan to change it a second time and there weren't any flakes/debris in the pan so I think I'm going to keep babying it until it falls apart. On the plus side, I'm friends with a tow truck driver so getting it to the junk yard eventually probably won't cost me anything LOL
