Hey Scotty, I've got a 2017 Nissan Rogue AWD CVT transmission with about 72,000mi on it. I had to take my car in for new tires to one mechanic and then over to another mechanic for my annual state inspection. Both mentioned to me that my inner tie rods were a bit looser than they should be and that, while it wasn't dangerous and would still pass inspection, that I should get them replaced so that my tire wear would be even, the car would ride correctly, etc. Now I'm thinking, okay, tie rods, probably gonna cost me a few hundred bucks for the job. But here's the kicker, I go back to the first mechanic, (where I got my tires done), and they say, "for this model, we can't find JUST the tie rods so it looks like we'd have to replace the whole rack and pinion, which would run you about $1,300." I leave there and start doing some research, turns out, my Rogue which was made in Korea, has this nice "feature" where when something like the tie rod goes bad, you can only get the whole assembly, not just a single part to replace. I did find an interesting youtube video where someone had the same problem and wanted to see if there was a work-around. He found that you can buy a tie rod replacement for an AMERICAN made 2017 Nissan Rogue. So he did, and he installed it on his 2017 Korean Rogue. He said that the only difference was that the replacement tie rod had slightly less threading than the original tie rod that he removed from his car. So my question to you is this: would this be an acceptable thing to do? Or would it also negative consequences? Thanks very much in advance.
If it still could be adjusted for front end alignment and it screws in deep enough that would be okay because normally you can compensate for a little bit of length on the inner tie rod by making the outer tie rods move out a little bit further to compensate for any difference in length
Much appreciated, sir
