Hi!
I have a 2014 Chevrolet Orlando, 2.4L automatic transmission with 140,000 km. I have been having issues with no heat coming from the front drivers and rear passenger side vents. But am getting heat from the front passenger side vents. Note the fans work and blow but am not getting heat from any of the vents (i.e. windshield, dash and floor vents). Also the car does not have dual climate control and operates on a single control for the entire vehicle. I have had the heater core flushed but that didn't seem to work and the technician indicated that he has seen this issue before with Chevy's and told me to take the car to the dealership.
The dealer stated they checked the blend door actuator and they changed out the heater core but that didn't work. They think the heating case maybe broken and want to change that out. The issue is that although the case costs around $400, it will require over 11 hours of labor and lets just say the dealership's rates are not cheap (total estimate = $2500). Also the case will take 2 months to get shipped to the dealer, so I'm driving in the cold with no heat at the moment.
As what the dealership has prescribed is not a guarantee fix, is there something else I can try/check to get some heat?
Thanks
We don't see Chevrolet Orlando's here but I've seen this problem while researching this same issue with Malibu's and Cruze's.
One of the mode doors breaks in the HVAC distribution box. Sometimes it's a metal rod inside there. More often it's the plastic hinges on one of the doors. One door gets stuck in the closed position so NO heat to that side of the car.
Anyway, when I looked into this previously for the other guys with this problem I couldn't figure out a way to get that door to open without taking the dash apart and physically replacing the parts in the distribution box.
Maybe one of the forum's HVAC guys can figure out a way.
I found a video I had bookmarked on a Malibu by Murphy's Autocare explaining this better.
The guy says he sees a lot of these so I don't know why the dealer you brought it to hasn't.

Thanks @jack62, this is very helpful and gives me a bit more confidence on what work the dealership is going to do.
Yeah the Orlando was a Canadian exclusive for the North American market, which is probably the reason for the delay in getting parts. Lesson learned, I won't purchase country exclusive cars again or a Chevy for that matter lol.
I am suspicious they cant tell you for sure. Anyone can change parts until the problem goes away and then say the last part I put in was the problem. They should be able to trouble shoot why air is missing on two vents. It s not rocket science.
