Hi I decided to try out the cheap Thinkobd100 $35 scan tool that Scotty recommend for people that want to work on their own cars, and man does that scanner work! I used it on my moms 2004 Honda Pilot and it read a code for Evac leak. It confirmed my guess I had a few months ago when it has a check engine light but It was only because I lost the gas cap for the car. I asked a mechanic if that could be the cause of the check engine light and he said no, I didn’t listen and lightwent away when i put a new cap! So this code confirmed my guess! I also erased the code and checked if the car was in good condition. Scotty is right! buy this if you want to learn how to use a scan tool. I might carry this around while I’m shopping around for a used car!

It does offer great value for money. For most people it does more than is needed.

By any chance, do you know if it reads odometer readings?

I haven’t messed with it enough to know if it does, but I’ll follow up on you on that!

Thank you!

See PID A6 in the table here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs#Service_01

"odometer" is a standard Mode 01 parameter, which means that even the most basic $2 OBD tool should be able to read it, especially if it has a custom query function.  (provided that the vehicle manufacturer supports the PID)

Fascinating. Thank you.
