Hi Scotty,

I was wondering what is better, an OEM battery replacement like Truestart battery or buying other batteries. What is better for a car that is in very good condition?

Ahh. The days when Scotty’s videos were less than 10 minutes long, and not interrupted by commercials.

There are a limited number of battery manufacturers, so many batteries of different prices are all made on the same assembly line, just different stickers on the side.

I believe OEM should work just fine but I will say that the optima batteries and really good too. I had one in my 2000 ford ranger and it was a great battery that never let me down.

OEM battery i would buy only for electronics like phones, etc even then you can buy replacement from other good manufacturer.

I changed car batteries a lot on my old Audi A4 from '95 that i still have, i had an issue with the alternator and the battery was drained after some time, the changing worked but not enough. On one battery that was discharged actually got frozen in the winter and had to recycle it 😀

Long story short i end up with repairing the alternator by mistake and also bought a national brand battery that is really fresh when you buy it and is manufactured in the country, so you don't buy old batteries that stay on the shelf. Also buy the same type, if it is gell buy gell, if lead acid buy lead acid one, etc.

Another tip is to buy from a place that sells only batteries not from the supermarket where you do not know how old the battery is.

Scotty explains it better in the video 😎

We have used walmart everstart maxx batteries without issue for several years now.  They also have a good warranty and are decently priced.
