If you do alot of highway driving and we're to put the amount of miles for your next oil change in a week would that mean you need to get your oil changed again every week?

Your question isn't clear? Change your oil every 5000 miles, if you drive that much in a day, you change it every day.

@hixster I would have to change my underwear too, going 200 mph for 24 hrs straight

highway miles are easier on an engine. About 20% of the wear, according to Scotty. You could probably stretch it out a bit to 6 or 7k. That's assuming your engine is perfect, isn't worn out,  has no known issues, or poor service history.

@imperator I understand the logic of Scotty's statement. I'm wondering if the reverse is true. For example, does a car with 60,000 miles of pure stop and go city driving have the equivalent of 300,000 miles of pure highway driving?

🤷‍♂️ I've not ever seen any scientific testing of this. But it's plausible.

@imperator I wonder what city taxi companies do - their driving is mostly stop and go, but they need to get a lot of miles out of their vehicles.

@Glen_stet constant maintenance by fleet mechanics.

Do an experiment, change oil after 5K, 7.5K and 10K miles and get it tested. I have a feeling that after 7.5K (maybe even after 10K) of highway driving the oil will still be OK. Would be interesting to see test results though...

My car is a 2016 Toyota corolla and they say you can get away with changing the oil twice a year.

@eishiba An oil change interval should be based primarily on mileage. If you don't drive much using a time based interval makes sense. A car that sits and isn't driven much still has an engine that goes through heat and cooling cycles (which cause condensation). This can cause contamination. Too many oil changes is far better than too few

@eishiba who is "they"? What does it say in your owner's manual?
