How hard is doing an oil change on a car with its engine underneath? Or is it impossible? Has anyone done it before?
For which car?
Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster as they have the engine underneath, also called mid engines.
Huh? The wording of your question doesn't make sense.
Do you not get what I mean? On some cars, the engine is under the car, usually towards the back. How hard is an oil change on this setup?
I don't understand. All oil drain plugs are accessed from underneath.
Raise the vehicle. Drain the oil.
Well, … you mentioned Cayman, easy:
You raise the car high enough so you can crawl under - make sure it is supported well. Accidental drop on your head is the risk, …
Next, there is drain plug underneath, it requires Allen key (don’t remember the size). You pull the plug, … drain oil into a large, large pan - count on about 8 litre plus to drain, … than reinstall the plug. Torques, washers ‘n such you need to look up. No magic, …
Shove off to the filter underneath, next: you need a filter wrench. Filter is an element-type, you replace the pleated element. No magic, …
Finally, … to under the rear hatch, filler neck is in there. Take a cover off, remove a cap, … pour, oh, about 7 litre plus of oil in. Go through a procedure of checking engine oil level (gauge is in the instrument panel - you have to go through the menus to bring it up. Top oil level up as required.
if all is OK, … no loose parts left on the ground, no leaks,… off she goes of the blocks, … burn out time!
Other cars with engines at the bottom, in the rear may differ, … I have no idea - no experience.
