Hello, Im very thankful for this site, I dont normally work on cars, but Im learning.. So I changed my oil about a month ago on my '09 Honda Civic LX, 153,000 miles. Its been good ever since, but yesterday, my yellow wrench icon came on and a readout that said OIL LIFE 15 .... and I dont have a clue what this means. I immediately drove it home and took the train to work. When I got home, I checked the oil... my dipstick is plastic orange, and kinda hard to read, but there is oil in it! I took a flashlight and looked under, no oil spots on the street. And no oil under the carriage. Also,I panicked when I saw this on the dash, and added about 3/4 more of a quart of the correct oil and drove it home.... I wasnt far from home, just like 4 blocks. Now Im scared to drive it, I dont want to damage it further. Was I suppose to re-set a counter on it? I really dont know that much about cars, its been doing so well, until now. It doesnt sound any different, rides the same and everything. Please help.... thanks.
Jeeze..... I hope I didnt put too much in there. Im going out to check it again. Hope Im not a PAIN here. Just no one here to help.
No need to panic. It is just an oil life indicator, you should reset it every time you change your oil:
