I was changing the spark plugs on my 03 ES300 and I noticed that there was oil and grime all over the intake manifold and inside the block itself, I know for a fact that this isn't normal, anybody have any suggestions?

The inside of the block IS supposed to be oily.

As for your intake manifold ... maybe the PCV system is leaking? Or valve cover gasket?

Yes, I apologize, it is supposed to be oily but my Lord, is it full of grime. I will change the PCV valve.

it might help to post a photo of the wet areas

Yes, I took a picture, but I wasn't sure how to add a picture, it would've been much clearer if I included a picture. Sorry for the hassle.

I made a link for google photos for the picture, if this helps at all. https://photos.app.goo.gl/YBb2f4PcupmfHBJHA

Thank you for the photos

I don't think that is part of the engine block. That looks like an intake manifold. The inside of it is about what I would expect from an '03. I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as the deposits aren't building up on the valves. I'm not sure if you can see the valves through the ports, but you can stick a small camera in there.

As for the oily film on the rest of the engine, that's most likely coming from the valve covers. You can try cleaning up the mess with some varsol parts cleaner, and then monitoring to see where it comes from.

Thank you, I realize my mistake in terminology, which is definitely what caused confusion. I'll keep an eye on it.

If cleaning the engine and replacing the PCV valve doesn't cure the oiliness, Scotty has a video on how to find leaks using UV visible dye and a black light.
