Hi Scotty, I have a 2005 toyota solara 3.3l v6 convertible daily driving, bought it used from a senior lady in Phoenix Arizona(no rust on the frame, only some superficial rust on the exhaust pipe line), didn't get any maintenance records from her. Currently at 89500 miles, transmission fluid looks clear(have a dip stick). Got a few minor issues including: 1: engine or transmission rumbles at reverse or drive after a cold start, after 3 to 5 minutes the noise would be gone. 2: rear suspension making noise at a speed bump in the cold weather, when it's warmed up, the noise tend to be lower or totally gone. 3: power steering pump is wet, covered with some old sticky fluid, but not dripping, power steering fluid level is good.4: there is one noise coming from the fan belt/tensioner area, the mechanic who checked the car noticed that and tightened it up, but the noise came back after a few months. 5: when should i change the timing belt/water pump, etc. I know there are a bunch of questions, thank you very much! Pray

Tip: It’s best to put each of these into separate threads to get more visibility and answers.

Hello Dominic,

Your answers:

  1. Replace the motor mounts.
  2. Change the struts- they are worn or damaged.
  3. If the power steering pump is working fine, then you could clean the outside.
  4. Double check on the belt and ask a mechanic if it needs to be replaced.
  5. I would leave the water pump alone- if it works fine with no issues then don't touch it.
  6. For the timing belt-you could change it but check with a mechanic before doing so.

Thanks a lot!
