Opinion about mitsubishi

Hi Scotty. It's that time in my life where i need a 7 seater vehicle to take family. So I was looking at only Japanese automakers and it seems like Honda pilot Toyota highlander and mitsubishi are the only ones that have reliability under their belt.

However the price point of Toyota and Honda is significantly higher that mitsubishi. So i was leaning towards one of the newer outlander with about 50000km on them. I know their engine is only 2.4 l and it's cvt but I just need a vehicle to take family to places so would u recommend this over Toyota or Honda? Since it's about $10000 Can cheaper ?

Clarification: How many years and miles do you need it to last you?

Mitsubishi is part of “Alliance” (Renault - Nissan), their new models are basically just Nissans in disguise (Mitsubishi outlander = Nissan X-Trail)

their older cars we’re alright, but a lot of them came with somewhat unreliable CVTs.

and other models like the pickup trucks are made in collaboration with Fiat (Mitsubishi Triton = Fiat FullBack, exact same car)

On another note, Honda has a lot of issues with their 9ZF transmission, I don’t recommend getting anywhere near it. It’s the same notoriously unreliable 9ZF unit that’s used in the Fiat 500X and Chrysler 200.

Basically, the only completely “bullet prof” suv from a mechanical standpoint, out of that list, is the highlander - and it is worth the extra $10k cause it should be able to serve x2 or even x3 times longer then the rest.

Hello Scotty.
I have seen several of your videos and really like the content you bring to the viewers.
My question is related to the Car manufacturer Mitsubishi.
What do you think of the manufacturer they provide the best warranty which conveys the msg that they really know what they are doing but would like your opinion on their Cars/ Suvs.
Just some back ground knowledge i owned a 2010 Mit Lancer and that car lasted over 300000KM and the only thing that i did on the car was fluid changes based on the interval advised in the Owners manual and brakes.
Nothing ever broke down on that car tough the car was parked outside all year in snow/Rain and Sun.
Located in Toronto Canada.
I now have the need to upgrade to a 7 seater and am looking at the Mit outlander 2018 V4 CVT as it seems to be the most affordable option and knowing how well the last Mit lasted.

Thank you.
Much appreciated!

I am not a fan of Mitsubishi but those Lancers were made in Japan and they were decent back then, but they don't make them anymore. Ur talking about buying an Outlander. Have a mechanic check it out, check the CVT, the engine, and everything else, if it's good don't pay a lot for one, cuz they have no resale value. Personally, I would go for a Rav4 of that year since those are excellent vehicles, however, if ur heart is set on the Mitsubishi and you can keep up the maintenance, go ahead and buy it.

You're not going to like this answer but here it comes anyway.

They don't make very good cars in my opinion.

Personnally, I refuse to buy anything from the company that made the planes that bombed Pearl Harbor.

If you must get an asian made car, I'd go with Honda.

Just my opinion.

Personal opinions aside "Dan" pretty much nailed it. If they are indeed Nissan's then they are worse than I thought.

You learn something every day.
