Hello,

I am car shopping for my first vehicle, I have had my full license since 2020 (I am 22). And I am about to start a job, but have some money from College still saved up, and if I go somewhere now I have to take the bus, or have someone drive me. And I really want a vehicle. I really want an RX330, or RX350 because I have always thought they were cool vehicles and a good ole Toyota/Lexus product.

Scotty if reading, or someone else who has experience owning, or working on a high mileage RX350. Or a higher Mileage RX330. The first vehicle I like is a 2009 RX350 AWD, with the 3.5L (2GR-FE) under the hood and approx 216k on the clock. CarFax Maintenance records look pretty good and look decent for the age.  It's still daily driven till sold, so the good thing is it doesn't sit. It's interior is dirty, but he said he'd get it all detailed up before the sale. The guy is a dealer and wants $8,490 before TTL ($9,342.85 after TTL), but the list price is in the ballpark of NADA (Clean retail $8,165) and KBB ($8,997 Fair PP{Typical Listing Price $9,497}). If I had a mechanic look it over I may be able to get him to budge. He says "He's firm" but I could try again, even if -490 @8k flat + TTL {$8,821}. It's also been on the market for almost 1 year at his lot, I believe because of the price. He had it listed for $8,850 in October but dropped it over a couple of months to $8,490.  (Link to the Listing

I also posted a wanted ad on Craigslist for better options, and got an offer for a 2006 RX330 FWD 3MZ-FE that has (173k) and is in about the same shape, he wants $8,500, but KBB and NADA aren't even that high even in the condition. It's very nice, but not $8500 nice! ($6,700 is KBB), and I am unsure if the timing belt has ever been changed so I would have to have that done before I started everyday driving it.  The CarFax is also missing service/maintenance records. The 09' has been maintained pretty well according to CarFax.  (Pictures of RX330

I honestly would prefer the 09' since it has the timing chain instead of the belt. But if I could get the 06' RX private seller to do a bit below private book value for the timing belt, tensioners, and water pump. The 06' RX wouldn't be bad. I am just very scared about the Timing belt. I will drive whichever one I purchase daily from A to B 5-6 days a week, 29.7 miles daily. Not including any additional driving.  No matter which one I go with I would have a mechanic perform a Pre Purchase Inspection.

I also found a 2007 Sienna XLE FWD loaded listed for $7,795 (Books at $7,270 {Typical price $7,790}), with 162,xxx miles on it.  Pretty clean, CarFax maintenance records look decent.  I kind of like it too, but the Lexus would just seem cooler to me. I'll admit though I really like the Sienna too.

Overall, what's the opinion of someone who works on these, or owns or has owned one. Which one would you recommend, and what's your opinion on both of them? And is the RX330 3.3L interference? Everyone online says something different about that.

Thanks

Well Lexus is a luxury brand. I'm not sure that would be the best choice for a 1st vehicle. The maintenance will be expensive too.

The Sienna sounds like a better idea to me. It's a practical vehicle. At least it lets you haul around your furniture, or you can use it to make money.

Whatever you get, always make sure to have it inspected.

What’s the mileage of each vehicle?

09' Lexus RX350 AWD has approximately 216,000 miles on the clock. 06' Lexus RX330 FWD has approximately 173,000 miles. 07' Toyota Sienna XLE FWD has approx 162,000 miles.
