Hi Scotty, I filled up my 2002 kia sportage (diesel) with  5.3 litters of engine oil but it requires 4.1 litters, so is it okay if I drive with it with 5.3 litters? Does it cause any harm to engine?

@sohail
Dont drive with 2 much oil in yhd engine you will break it oil in pistons ect take about 2 ltr.s out and add clean back in till it reaches the required amount add slowley as it needs to reach the sump first before you can take a measure good luck ivan

That is overfilled WAY too much. You need to empty out the extra oil otherwise you will have bad oil lubrication. This is because the oil will be turned into a foamy like froth from the crankshaft making too much contact with the overfilled oil. Frothy oil cannot be sucked up by the oil pump, so you're not going to have adequate lubrication in the engine.

Check the dipstick. You don't want to be above the maximum mark. If there's too much then you should drain some out. Ironically, too much oil can starve the engine because it was designed to make the oil flow a certain way.

No you can’t drive it like that. You need to drain out that extra oil or you risk blowing out engine seals and causing damage to the engine.

@astafford
which seals? pressure is vented via the PCV system.

Drain the excess or re-do your oil change again (you can use the same filter).
