Hey Scotty! Big fan of yours, love your content! Anyway, have an issue here I’m not sure where to go with. I have a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox LT, AWD, equipped with the (horrible/not flex fuel) 2.4 i4 engine, has exactly 131,002 miles. The car it’s self for the most part has been great and have never had an issue until recently. Anyway, a while back it randomly started to have a misfire. Started it up, and ran fine and get ready to merge on the interstate and it began misfiring. Got the car home and first thing a did a few days later was change the plugs and coil packs (the car was still on the factory plugs). Well that did not fix the issues. I borrowed a scanner and the car is showing code P0304 (Misfire Cylinder 4). After that, and went back under the hood and moved coil pack four, to cylinder two, to attempt to move the misfire as this has worked on a previous car and turns out I had gotten a bad coil pack back then. That did not work, it still had the misfire. Pulled it back apart and swapped spark plugs the same way as the coil pack. Still the same showing cylinder 4 misfire. (Cleared codes before each startup). When I pulled the plug it appeared to have had raw fuel on it also. At this point I’m a bit unsure what else to look for? Any tips would greatly be appreciated as I don’t want to have it taken to a shop as I’m new in my area and not sure who is reputable to go to just yet so I want to save this as last resort.
Did you check the FAQ?
This might help you out. There are many reasons why an engine could misfire.
You can read all about symptoms, diagnosing, causes, and watch Scotty's videos on this topic though the FAQ topic: My engine stumbles and lacks power. (Misfire, engine light, with codes)
One thing to note is to not drive the car, as it could cause more damage.
From the FAQ page for Misfire:
When misfires happen repeatedly, the computer will illuminate a trouble light on your instrument panel. If you keep driving a car that is misfiring, then it will cause damage to other components over time, such as your catalytic converter (thousands of dollars to replace). If the engine is misfiring badly enough, the IP light will flash, indicating that you should stop the vehicle right away, because immediate damage will occur.
