Pressure on cold Radiator

Hi Scotty, love your videos!
I'm backpacking Australia together with my Girlfriend in an 98 Pajero/Montero (3.5L V6). It has about 350k km on it and for some time now it has some pressure on a cold radiator. When I run the car without the cap there are no bubbles nor does it show any white smoke from the exhaust. A mechanic friend of mine said it could be a tiny little crack in the engine or gasket that pushes a little bit into the cooling system but I should not worry about till it gets worse. What do you think/recommend?

Too many miles on that car, and your mechanic is correct.

I would not take that car to a trip like that, you do not want to get stranded in the middle of nowhere.

It's possible that the radiator's clogged in a few sections, as well (hence the increased pressure on a cold radiator).

I wouldn't take it into the Outback, either. From some of the documentaries that I've seen, some of those interior mining towns are rough, rough places. I wouldn't want to get stranded there.

Well I flushed the radiator about 15k kilometers ago. Problem started about 5000km later. So clogged could be if there is any residue... But I don't have any issues with it so far. No overheating, heater works fine,, thermostat works, engine runs good and smooth, no leaks and I don't loose coolant or get any contamination.

We only tell you our opinions, and at the end is the day, it is your decision.
