Rack and Pinion Leak Remedy

Hey Scotty and crew,

I have a 2012 Impala with 138,000 miles and a repair shop where I get my oil changed said I have a rack and pinion leak and a rear main seal engine leak.  To repair both of these I was quoted almost $3000!  I plan to use Scotty's recommended AT-205 reseal for the rear main seal but was wondering if I can use a sealer also for the rack and pinion.  If so what type of sealer for the re=ack and pinion do you recommend? It seems to be a slow leak as there are no current issues/noises coming from the power steering.  Thanks ahead for and help.

I have tried fixing the power steering rack, only for the problem to reappear after 6 months. Eventually, I bought a new aftermarket rack & it’s been working well, for the past 5 yrs.

But if you think it’s a slow leak, just keep adding fluid.

Thanks for the reply.  When you tried fixing the rack did you use a sealer or did you try to physically repair it.  Hoping I don't have to replace the rack being that it's a slow leak but if it has to be done it has to be done.

If you have had. I issues or puddles on the ground it’s most likely a seap and just keep an eye on the fluid levels and do not put any sort of sealer in it that stuff tends to lead to more problems in my opinion

I used the AT-205 that Scotty talks about on a slow power steering leak. After treatment it is much slower, albeit not 100% eliminated.

Ok sounds good thank for the info guys.  I havent even noticed anything on the ground but I park in gravel/grass at home, but I believe its a slow leak.  The shop refilled the power steering fluid so I don't know how low it was so I'm just going to monitor it for now and see how long it takes to get low again.
