Hey Scotty
I have a 2019 Nissan Rogue AWD. There is a banging noise coming for the rear differential. The dealer tells me that i need all new tires because they are not matching treads and that could damage the differential. Is this true? i also bought the car from this dealer.
Thanks

Thank you ...that was very helpful
The tires on an AWD vehicle need to be identical to within a fraction of an inch. Did that dealer sell it to you with those mismatched tires installed?
Thank you and yes they did. now i need to get them to pay for 4 new tires!
It has nothing to do with tread. It has to do with size. Read the size on the sidewall of the tire and see if they are all the same. If not, you need to match the size to the other two. The dealer is just trying to squeeze you for more money, as usual. It was your responsibility to check this stuff before you bought the car. Now, it's on you. Lose the dealer and find an independent mechanic in your area.
Thank you!
Knowing how crappy these systems are on Nissan - the rear diff is probably the main cause of the issue.
The tires might have something to do with it, an AWD car should have 4 identical tires anyway.
