Recharging Air Conditioning System

I followed all of your steps from using a vacuum pump for 45 minutes and AC Manifold set from Autozone. I then attempted to refill with refrigerant in an r134a system in my 2005 Mini Cooper-S. I had the first bottle of refrigerant connected and sitting on my postal scale. I started up my car cranked up the AC and nothing is happening.  The can weight has not changed so I  assume it is not flowing into my AC system.  I am not quite sure but it appeared that the compressor is not spinning.  The low pressure gauge is sitting at 30#'s. What do I try next?

Properly servicing an automotive AC system is NOT a do it yourself situation for most people.  Take it to an AC specialist, and not a chain store.

I'm sure you must be doing it but have to ask, are you opening the low pressure valve on the gauge set so refrigerant will flow (after purging air out of the lines of course)? If you have a vacuum in your AC system it should draw in enough refrigerant to permit the compressor to engage and slowly draw in the rest.

Yes I believe I've had the low pressure value open. I guess tomorrow I will go through the steps again to see if I missed anything. thanks for the comment

Just recheck everything. It's pretty basic physics - if the pressure in the can is higher than in your AC system, which will be the case if it's been vacuumed, and there is a clear path from the can to the service port, refrigerant will be pulled in.

Also check your can and can tap. They work differently depending on whether your refrigerant can is the newer self-sealing type (uses blunt tap) or the old type (piercing tap), and of course you have to use the correct tap for the can.

is this really worth saving $100?
