Hi Scotty! I have a 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid. I just wanted to ask: according to the computer only the front wheels regenerate the battery, why only the front ones do it? Shouldn't be better for all wheels to regenerate? Thanks!
The front brakes do about 80% of the work so that's where most of the energy will be found, and it's cheaper to build them that way.
it would work the same front or rear Chuck. The electric drive unit just happens to be on the front axle.
Shouldn't be better for all wheels to regenerate?
it would make zero difference. The energy comes from the momentum of the vehicle, not the number of wheels.
Regenerated power would be the same whether you used 1 wheel or 82 wheels. (of course it's better in pairs for balance)
If it's a front wheel drive, then the electric motor/generator is coupled to the front wheels. The braking is actually done by the generator before you slam the brakes and actuate the brake calipers. It works this way on Toyota fwd hybrids, I guess it's the same way in Hondas.
