Greetings,
I just bought a used 2019 Corolla Hatchback XSE with 77k miles. It's a good, stock car with no issues. After driving it for a week I'm getting the urge to put an aftermarket exhaust system on it. Will this affect the reliability of my Toyota or the gas mileage? I trust this community which is why I'm asking here. I've never modded any car in my life so I have zero clue about potential impacts.
Thank you
IMHO, for long term reliability, stock is best. If you know what you are doing, and you are willing to deal with the challenges of modding a car, that’s great for some folks. I sure as heck don’t, so I try to keep as stock as possible.
If I got a reputable one, and all I change is exhaust, in your opinion would it lead to potential issues? Thanks for the response
Why bother? All you're going to get for hundreds of dollars is more noise.
If you live in the Peoples' Republic of Commiefornia, or one of the other states that has adopted their standards, you'll fail emissions inspection with any exhaust component that is not CARB approved.
Not saying you should, but if you do, you want to get one from Magnaflow or Borla or other reputable manufacturers that do proper testing. Don’t just buy a cheap one off Amazon.
Magna is what I was thinking since I've seen them for years, thank you for the response.
I wouldn't modify your exhaust. It's a 4-banger and it'll probably sound like an angry lawn mower. You'll also be teased and played with by V8 drivers who modded their exhaust, by revving their engines and such. EcoBoost Mustangs don't sound very good, either, they're 4-cylinders too. My V6 Mustang sounds OK, but the noise gets really old after a while.
