Salt belt cars should I avoid?

I just passed on buying a 2006 Avalon with 113 k and accessories I want because it has been in Tennessee  the past 15 years. I worry about corrosion from the salting of roads. Is my concern valid?

I would not have a problem buying a car from Tennessee. I was a commercial driver for 18 years, I was in Tennessee constantly. I never saw them using salt. I saw them using the liquid brine on the interstates, before it stormed. I don't know if that has the same effect on metal. However like I said I would have no problem buying it unless it looked corroded badly. Also if it is not  from another state.

I can usually get 20 years here in Detroit before salt damage takes it's toll.

Tennessee should be a lot better.

You should have checked it first. Toyota makes good cars that can resist the corrosion quite well.
