Howdy friends,
Im still in the market for a car and i’ve caught a dilemma. There is a 2016 scion tc rs manual 2.5 I4 with 11,000 miles for sale for 17k by private seller. Planning on doing test drive soon to see if it drives well and get a better look at it. Or, i could get a brand spanking new 2022 toyota corolla cvt 1.8 I4 for 22k. I was thinkin that with the scion i could get by with offering 15k for it. Any input or thoughts?
Out of these two, the new Corolla. The 1.8L CVT combination isn't the best out there, but with timely fluid changes and moderate habits driving it's decent.
BUT, for $22k you should be able to get a FWD base model Corolla Cross 2.0 DynamicForce with the launch-gear CVT. That seems to be a significantly better powertrain, and it seems like a better deal in general.
If you want to spend 17k for a 6 years old car, why not getting a new Corolla with manual transmission?
The Scion is the american version of toyota vehicles and it should be reliable like a toyota. I would be careful when you get with the private seller and look around. If you got a scan tool bring it with you and check for any possible codes that might come up. Heck, maybe he even reset the mileage so he can raise the price. I'd definetly watch the smell and shape of the interior of that car if it has that low mileage check for any possible spots where rust could form as well. On the other hand, you could get a brand new corolla and it would most likely be the safest buy you did. In my opinion you should be careful if you want the TC but if you want the corolla nothing's stopping you. I personally prefer the TC cause it is a 4 cylinder 2.5 liter and might last a very long time if the mileage has not been reset.
I like stick, so I’d get the Scion, assuming it checks out.
In my opinion, I would choose Corolla over Scion because of the current prices of used cars. I would get a manual if you can drive stick.
