I am asking for advice on purchasing a 2001 Honda Civic for $2,500. The car has 221,000 miles. The owner of the car is selling it at his home. He says it drives well, has no issues, is in good condition, and the Title is clean. What kind of receipt of purchase should I get from an owner? He wants cash. I will be taking a mechanic along for a diagnoses. Even though the miles are high, and the car is 20 years old, Scotty says the Honda Civic is a good car, well built, and last long without major repairs. After having a 2000 Chevolet Cavilier that had many issues and major repairs, it was not a good car. Scotty reports Honda or Toyota as the best cars with few issues and last long. I need a good used car without the constant major repairs. I can afford this price and have no more money to spend on a car. I need to purchase as soon as possible. Please advise on this purchase.
What are your other options, if any?
If its an automatic, definitely not. Probably the worst model year for automatic transmission failures:

Also, the 2001 Honda Civic is the most recalled passenger car, EVER!
As a daily driver, I’d say it has too many miles.
Look for another car which has less mileage.
