- Hi Scotty! I have a very clean, used 2012 Toyota Highlander SE, V6 that I purchased a little over 2-1/2 years ago. It had 128,000 mi at the time and a good CarFax showing regular oil changes and service every 5k miles. What it didn't show was that the transmission was ever serviced or that the trans fluid was ever changed. Vehicle now has 160,000 and shifts flawlessly. Should I have the trans fluid changed? Trans filter changed? I'm concerned (not knowing whether it's been changed) that doing so will screw it up. Thanks a million! Anthony
Thanks!

If your car is towards 200k mileage and the transmission fluid has never been touched- don't touch it.

Since the fluid and filter are supposed to be changed at around 30-50K miles, it may be too late for it to do any good. How much does a new transmission cost?

What does the fluid look like?
