Scotty, the Mad Scientist of Automobile engines, my son's car is doing weird electrical things and the local mechanic says his 400$ machine says it's just fine after my son says that the car is running 1.75 amps to high and blowing lights and the 175$ brand new battery that they sold him is spewing acid everywhere and the battery salesman is there saying that they are overfilled sometimes. It's a 2010 Kia forte automatic. And my son undid the battery and tested each fuse to see because he replaced a battery and the light bulbs (all turn signals, headlights, ECT) all keep going out. But they said that he could replace a 400$ alternator but it says that it is working fine. I may have missed it in your videos and I am originally from the Show Me State so can you show me please a way to prove this smart mouth mechanic that his 400$ hand tool and his mouth just lost my business.?
It sounds like your alternator's voltage regulator has gone funny in the head. (Voltage may be controlled by the PCM in that car.) What is the voltage at the battery terminals when the engine is running?
By the way, a brand-new Denso alternator for that car if it was needed costs about $245 (rockauto.com price). Of course that does not include shop markup and labor.
