My 2000 VW Jetta TDI is pushing smoke smelling like antifreeze when i turn on blower for heat or A/C. I jump started it and burned my starter out which i replaced. Now the blower for heat doesn't work at all but getting smoke in interior. Is that electronic issue or mechanical? Thank you.

Could be a leaking heater core (which will be in the dash, if you're lucky a stop leak might do the trick,
otherwise your looking at $$$ to pull the dash out and put in a new heater core.

Dalton covered 1/2 the problem.  Heater core.

The smoke issue is the other problem. May have a roasted squirrel cage (blower) motor. Could have dropped antifreeze from heater core on motor and shorted it out.

If you suspect that the heater core is where your smell is coming from. Take 2 vise grips ( The Proper way is with hose pinch off pliers ) Cover the rough part of the jaws with a rag or something soft and pinch off both heater hoses. If the smell goes away, your heater core is leaking. You could drive it around like this but your heater will not work or unfortunately the dash will have to come out and the heater core will have to be replaced. As for the blower motor not working, that's goanna be time for some electrical diagnosis. Step 1 does the blower motor have power and ground. if yes, replace the blower motor. If not you'll have to trace out the circuit.

How cold does it get in the winter where your from is my first question? If your answers is not to cold. Bypass the heater core to same some money.
