Spark plug melting

Topic starter

Hi Scotty, I have a 2006 GMC Canyon 4x4 with the 3.5 5 cylinder, it has over 260,000 miles and engine and transmission are original (except for new water pump) My truck has recently started melting the ground terminal of the spark plug only in cylinder #3. I have tried platinum and iridium plugs with no difference. I do mostly highway driving at least 100 miles per day. Any idea on what's going on?

P.S. I see on Facebook ads EFFUEL is using you as an expert who believes in their product, is that true, and does it actually work?

Maybe running lean in Cylinder #3 causing overheating melting the plug. wouldn't hurt to check compression on the offending cylinder too just to get a better idea what else might be going on there.

I wonder if the coil pack should be replaced @ 260K. The ECM may be trying to compensate for a weak or failing coil pack.

lots of people have reported the EEFUEL ad here, but nobody has provided a link, a screenshot, or anything.

Are you getting any pinging? I would check the ignition timing.

Burned plug Blisters on insulator tip, melted electrodes, burned
stuff.
Engine overheating, gap is too wide, wrong or loose plugs,
overly lean fuel/air mixture, or incorrect timing
Hence, Replace the plug.

Pre-ignition
