Startability Malfunction P1604

Hey Scotty!  Bought a 2018 Toyota Corolla SE from Carmax with 58k miles on it.  I scanned it today and got the Startability Malfunction P1604 code.  I still have a couple days to return the vehicle.  The car starts fine but you do have give the key a little force as you turn, not much. Advice on how to follow up on this code?  Battery checked out fine.  Fuel pump tests next ?  Also some "OFFS" show up on the scanner as well,  like the Engine Start Hesitation OFF, Low revolution control "OFF", vacuum pump "OFF" etc..  Do these OFF's signal red flags as well?   Thanks for your time!

P.S. if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to chime in!  Thanks again

I would take it back rather than accept a vehicle that needs troubleshooting due to codes right off the bat. You're paying a ripoff premium price at Carmax and should expect a premium product.

@chucktobias He's really 100% correct. Classic Tobias.
Forget CarMax, you could take it back then get on Craigslist too. Local is another, but we've got alotta lemon stands dealing cars around here. Scotty has many videos on buying used cars, it's well worth the brush up. Sucks that you're already going through this, OP.

Could need a new battery. Could test that battery before buying a new one. Do one or both then have the code wiped. Scotty has videos on how to wipe codes. I'll start digging.

Car could've been started with low to no fuel and stored the code. Again needs a wipe. You wanna start with the wipe and then go deeper if it comes back.

Could be fuel pump related but that gets into Scotty territory.  I'm just a baby mechanic trying to help.

Are there any additional codes?

Here's classic Scotty showing you how to clear codes. Good luck with everything.  🌟
