Switching Brands of Motor Oil

Topic starter

I heard from a mechanic that once your car gets used to a certain brand of oil (penzoil)
that you should never change brands like switching to vavoline for example, that it can damage your engine?

Is this myth or true?

thank you

I been switching brands my whole life and never had a problem. I buy whatever is cheapest.

Every oil manufacturer uses their own additives. So if you switch around constantly, you risk doing damage to your rubber seals over time.

Here and there is ok to change, but I would not recommend frequently changing brands, and especially don't change between synthetic and conventional.

That, sir, is pure Baloney.  Unless you are buying some exotic Sperm Whale oil blend from Japan, most oil comes in different packaging from the same place.  I don't care what they say on the packaging.  If it satisfies the requirements of the manufacturer, it doesn't matter what brand it is.

whale oil ... it's like caviar for cars 😆

Absolutely. Whale oil used to be the only lubricant used on mechanical watches.
