I have a 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 V6 A/T that I bought new. Currently I have 37k miles at 10 years old (yep) and will be having the trans serviced for the 1st time this month. Am I right to just have the fluid drained or is there a need to have it flushed? If I do a flush now, should this be done from now on? This is a keeper for life so skimping is not necessary but being smart is. Thanks. JP
I would drain and fill now, and also change the filter (if accessible/serviceable). Normally, I’d also say change the fluid (drain and fill) every 40,000 miles from now on but since you don’t drive all that much that will be another 10-12 years before you need to do it again. I don’t know how the transmission fluid degrades with time - may want to do some research on that, but if it were my truck I’d change it much sooner than once every 10 years.
Agreed. I most likely will do it every 5 years from now on. It is amazing how time can slip up on you. Thanks. JP
DO NOT FLUSH. Just change fluid and filter.
