Hello Scotty,

I own a 2017 (bought in 2018) Ford F-150 Lariat (5.0L V8), the truck has helped me a lot but I want to take good care of my truck, I want it to last as long as I live, maybe 10 or 15+ years, what are certain procedures or requirements that I need to take into considerations if I want my truck to last, especially when it comes to the engine and transmission

Follow the maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual and don’t miss any fluid changes.

If your owner’s manual doesn’t mention the interval, change your engine oil & filter every 5000 miles and your transmission fluid atleast every 50,000 miles.

plan on croaking soon! {pear}:laughingoutloud:

😂🤣 yeah I’d have similar suggestion. These Fords just don’t last nowadays…

I would take the manufacturer's maintenance intervals and cut them in half.  If it says change the oil and filter at 10,000 miles, do it at 5,000 miles.  Same with the trans, differential(s), etc.  Lubrication is the key to longevity.

I know this sounds counterintuitive for owning a truck, but I would try to keep the miles down and drive efficiently.

Stay away from situations where the truck will be idling for long periods of time, and combine your errands to reduce your overall mileage.

If you drive 10,000 miles a year on average, by cutting that down you can extend the life of the vehicle.

If you can store the vehicle in a garage, I would do that as well.  A garage that is warmer in the winter than the outside air will allow the vehicle to start and circulate the oil a bit faster for instance.

Other than meticulously changing the fluids, I don't think there's anything else you can really do.

Side note, we use Km, but I will use miles to make it easy for you, I do drive the truck efficiently, I am not that type of guy who would floor it on a regular basis, I normally drive around 62 mph, it really helps with my fuel economy despite being a V8,

When it comes to mileage, it’s kinda difficult to keep it 10,000 miles per year since I travel around 120 miles every week (from home to university and vice versa) and not to mention around 27 miles everyday from my cousins home to uni and vice versa

Yes, my 16,000km/year was basically just an example. Cruising at 100kph is also a good idea for fuel economy and longevity.
Of all the current Ford engine offerings, the 5.0 is the most reliable, so personally I don't know what else you could do.

Consider using the new GF6A oil that Scotty has been recommending. It is backwards compatible with your 5W-20.
