Hey Scotty,

Love from India,

  1. I am planning to buy Tata Nexon a small suv. It has Tata's own revotron - 3 clindder turbo petrol engine. Can you please do a little research and let me knowo about this eingine. If it's reliable as Ford's 3 clindder engine. I'll change my mind to ecosport if it's not good.

Thanks,

Vipin

they don't sell those vehicles here in the United States so I have absolutely no experience with them you have to ask an Indian mechanic that one

I wouldn’t take the chance and spend money on a Tata. The Ecosport is a global product and will have much better reliability than the Tata.

Hi @scottykilmer and @vx-vipin.

Thanks for allowing me to be a member of CarKiller.com
Greetings from New Zealand!

A little more on Tata Motors:

They are mainly into Trucks and Commercial vehicles from 1950s and started making cars in 1991 with launch of
Tata Estate( AKA Poor mans Mercedes E class Wagon), Tata Sierra ( 2 door SUV with huge windows) and
Tata Sumo ( People carrier with looks of Mercedes G wagon)

My father owned a 1994 Tata Estate for 14 years. On basis of our ownership experience,
we do not recommend to buy any Tata car. New or Used! Looks can be deceiving and yes, Tata cars do look good but they are not reliable. They lack finesse and quality control does not exist.

A small story to share,

My father's Tata was indeed a very comfortable vehicle because it had exactly same suspension
set-up as the Mercedes W123 and yes it had very comfortable seats too.

However,

It was absolute rolling pile of junk.

Engine was a 2L Diesel with Bosch Injection Pump similar to Mercedes W123s( apparently that was the only thing on the car which lasted for entire 280,000kms in original shape),underpowered and loved to blow head gaskets.

There was hardly any rust proofing and the car loved to rust and often water came in the cabin.

Interior was of cheap plastic and easy to break.

Electrical problems were something we learned to live with. Power windows not winding up, Air con not blowing at all
etc.

In a nutshell, stay away from Tatas! Be wise and get a Toyota.

Cheers
Tanmay
