They said I need an intake manifold.

So, I took my 2002 Ford expedition Eddie Bauer edition into the shop for what I thought was going to be a routine tune-up. I was then notified that I was in need of a intake manifold. They want $1,000 to fix it.

The truck is riding really rough. When I push the gas it struggles to get up to speed. Sounds like it's in need of a tune up. I purchased a diagnostic tool that tells me I have about three misfires if that makes any sense. I'm really new at using the diagnostic tool.

Times are kind of hard for me right now to Shell out $1,000 to have the car repaired. So what I am wondering is if I replace with new spark plugs and possibly wires myself with this help any at all?

Thanks in advance

there are many causes for misfiring, and troubleshooting must be done to identify what that is. You can read about misfires in our FAQ. If the cause is a vacuum leak, then spark plugs won't fix it.

I can't tell if you need a new manifold or not over the internet, but the only reason I can see for replacing it, is that it's damaged. They should be able to show you if it is.
