Should I buy a RAV4 for towing

Thinking of ditching my 2012 Nissan Murano, considering a new Rav4 but want to be able to tow about 2000lbs. Thoughts on their torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system?

So, my '12 Murano (260k kms/ 161k miles) has started to act like a manual transmission car that you've accidently taken off in second or third and does that little "chug" feeling.  Happens at about 10-15mph, likely safe to assume CVT.  Dealer says no codes show up, but it seems to be happening more and more.  They've said I could try replacing fluid, but  the odds are extremely low that it'd do much.  Cost to replace and fix the other minor issue (lower control arm bushings) is getting pretty close to what the vehicle is worth. Shame because I love everything else about the vehicle.

I love the look of the new Rav4's, but the only one that has more than a 1500lb tow rating in Canada is the Trail edition, which looks very similar to the American Adventure trim that has the torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system.  Any word on if there's any common issues with that setup?

Side note, so many dealers up here I'll refuse to buy from.  Several asking as much as $50,000 Canadian for a 2019 Rav4 Trail with 60k kms (37k miles) when a 2023 has an MSRP of $43k. Similar situation with the few recent model year Highlanders I've looked at.

Why not get a pickup? You don't have to go for the Tundra but a compact or midsize pickup can give all the towing needs.

Comfort, and fuel economy mostly. Interior cargo space as well.

I've done the truck thing before, but I'm really only looking at towing 2000-2500lbs a few times a year.

I’d recommend checking the intake tube between the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body. On that vehicle it’s very common to tear in age it causes an unmetered intake leak and lean condition which could be the cause of your problem.  It’s cheaper than a transmission for sure

I love Toyota, that is pretty much all I will buy. However, I do not trust that every one they make is going to be something I want to buy. The reviews on it are some of the worst I have seen from any toyota.

Yeah, I've seen that after with the '19s seems like the last couple years have cleaned that up. Either way threw down a $500 deposit on a 2023 Trail, being told 8-10 month wait. Can always cancel and get money back if problems still persist in the newer models.
