- I have been given an offer to buy a used Toyota premio 2008 mileage 60000km at 9000$. Is there anything mechanically I should consider. I stay in Africa so the roads have quite a number of potholes. Please advise
Well although the Premio/Allion was never soled on the US/Euro markets,
It is yet another medium sized car based on the "new MC platform" - the same platform as most 2008-2015 Toyotas.
Being a slightly less luxurious Toyota Avensis.
The main issue with the petrol Avensis/Premio/Allion was poor reliability of the early K11? CVTs.
And looking online, it deffinetly seems like the Alion/Premio was fired with the K111 and as such suffers from lots of internal issues.
They last 125k-150k before requiring rebuild.
As far as engines, the ZR series did have oil consumption issues in 2008-2009 (so make sure it does not burn oil)
And the smaller NZ series of engines are just overall weak and unfit for a medium sized car.
Overall the engines are decent, but not great.
Also, although it's not a consideration for most, the design of the pre-facelift model is considered by some to be "repulsive"
Even with all the flaws of this car, it is not bad -
but it's still better to try and find a similar year/millage Toyota with a manual or a conventional automatic.
Showing that the Premio did have the K111:
An exploded K11[?] at 125k miles:
K111 having fully failed does not shift into drive:
And there are lots of videos of other Premio/Allion gearbox issues, but those are in languages I do not understand.
