Hey guys and Scotty.
Are Kia Optimas really that bad? I have an aunt who lives in Florida and her neighbor has a 2015 model year Optima 4-cylinder.
She bought it new and frequently shares posts on social media about the car such as...
I should have never bought this car. Broke down on the highway...again. Had to get it towed.
Here in Europe we have the Kia Optima, too, but you can't buy one new anymore. It has been discontinued a few years ago. For the European market it was made in South Korea, the US version is assembled in Georgia, I believe.
The funny thing about it is that over here I ALSO SEE KIA OPTIMAS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.
What is wrong with these vehicles? Are they poorly made? I mean, a 7 year old car should still be relatively trouble- free and shouldn't leave you stranded.
Here in North America you’d have to be a fool to buy any Hyundai Motor Group products, especially after consistently being warned by Scotty and this forum.

As you surmise, they are poorly designed and built. Even significant numbers of brand new ones are suffering from oil burning, engine failure, transmission failure, and spontaneous combustion (bursting into flames).

They're incredibly bad. A significant threat to her life. The subject of numerous recalls.
She's lucky it hasn't spontaneously burst into flame in traffic at 70mph.
