My new 2021 Toyota Tacoma comes with free oil replacement for 2 years. Should I trust the dealership to do it or should I just do the oil change my self ? I have done oil changes to my other cars for a couple of years now with out problems. I’m just worrying that if I don’t that warranty will be void or that the dealership service might try to scam me or put the wrong oil etc.

Since it is free and vehicle still under warranty, I would just have them do it for the time being so if you ever have to file a claim related to the powertrain the proof of the oil changes is already in their system.  Make sure though you check their work afterwards. If you plan to do it yourself make sure you document it (picture, video, etc.) including receipts of oil, filter, etc. you used (following the manual on what to use).

Take advantage of the free oil + filters.

All you have to do is check the dipstick, and look for the new filter, to know it was done.

Dealer will only do changes as per maintenance schedule. That is, I’m assuming every 10,000 miles or one year whichever come first, … but you may need to have it done more frequent, … ie. adjusted for real conditions of operation (as opposed to the ideal).

Anyway, If I were you, I would stab an oil change in between dealers free oil changes. But that’s me, … we have seven months of winter here.

Btw, … I would check full details of those "free" oil changes: … locally here, Toyota dealers include such free service, too. But, couple of them, … hidden in the fine print, exclude free filter, time factor to do the change, environmental fees and shop consumables! So be warned!
