Scotty, why are the consoles on late model Toyotas so wide? There's hardly any legroom width-wise in the RAV4 and most of the cars. There's even a company that makes knee pad cushions specifically for the RAV4s (2019 and newer): https://www.amazon.com/Huiye-Interior-Accessories-Console-concole/dp/B08D6ZJ1GL/ref=sr_1_9_sspa?crid=4PX73MM8ES1Y&keywords=toyota+rav4+knee+pads&qid=1658698474&sprefix=toyota+rav4+knee+pads,aps,132&sr=8-9-spons&psc=1
Thanks.
Who knows what lies in the minds of engineers yeah you'd think Americans are getting bigger and bigger and bigger you think they wouldn't make the car smaller inside
I think it's because they use the same body shell for the hybrid & non-hybrid models to save money. On the hybrid, the area under the console is occupied by hybrid components. It's a shame that so much space is wasted.
It's quite simple, seats (fabric, cushion, etc) are more expensive than plastic - it's just cheaper to built them that way.
Generally car seats are either not changing size or shrinking while cars each car generation is bigger and bigger.
Even if it has hybrid components there (and I'm really unsure wether there are any), they could've been elsewhere
For example the entire Euro lineup has a very similar drive system but no big center console
Some (although I couldn't find such an image for Hybrid spec, but I saw these) don't even have a center arm rest.
