I had a 2016 Highlander on lease. I switched to Hyundai Palisade 2021, and now want to go back to Toyota Highlander. The only engine available is a 2.4 cyl turbo, or hybrid. Is this a good engine?
Why? bc the people making these laws & regulations are clueless in the automotive field and out of touch with reality.
Its a toyota, so thats a good start, but its still a new engine, who knows what issues may occur. If you lease it then it wont be much of a financial burden atleast. I wouldnt buy one yet.
Well, the 2GR-FKS V6 is compliant with ALL environmental regulations.
(It's a direct and port injected Atkinson cycle unit with wide-range VVT technology - it's an impressive piece of engineering and it is compatible with the latest environmental requirements including EURO6!)
I assume that it has more to do with cost, the 4 cylinder turbo is just cheaper to make.

If it wasn’t for fuel standard and emissions laws, we would still have the V6. Alas, automakers are forced to get as much power from lower displacement engines.
It is hard to say how good the 2.4 turbo or the one connected to the hybrid system is because they are so new.
The 2.5L has been around for about 5 years. And so far so good.
The 2.4L turbo, is so new. While it has good bones in it, the additional turbo leaves a big question mark. Odds are it will be a fine engine, but there is no guarantee. Only time will tell.
