Toyota pulsating noise when let off gas!

Beginning to think that I have 1 or 2 bad CV axles on my car...

Starting today (or noticed anyways starting today) when I drive and let off the throttle and coast between 45mph and 80mph, I get a weird pulsating noise - it's more a noise then an actual pulsating feeling, though I suppose I can also feel it slightly... Above 80mph, I don't notice it, but... It seems speed sensitive as in the faster I'm driving, the faster the pulsation, and above 80mph, may the rate of pulsation is fast enough it just seems constant, thus not a pulse to my ears... Under 45mph, it doesn't usually happen, at least not as noticeably... This is all true, any road, any surface, driving straight, turning, etc...

Also... The noise happens regardless drive or neutral, and if I hit the brakes, the noise temporarily vanishes until after I hit the throttle and let off of it again...

I do notice one of my rotors (front passenger side) has groves worn into them, though my pads look fine and the other rotors look fine... This is made me consider maybe it could be a sticking caliper, but... The car does not pull to any side, and it coasts otherwise bleeding off momentum normally... If it were a caliper sticking, the car would pull to that side, and slow down faster than normal when coasting... I also don't think this is brake related because brakes if anything temporarily make the noise go away, usually if it was something like a warped rotor, the car would shake when you brake, my car does not!!!

It could maybe be transmission related (my car is a hybrid, the transmission is called a Power Splitting Device or PSD, but I will just call it a transmission from this point on - as it is still a transmission, but with a built in electric motor/generator that the hybrid battery drives or uses momentum while braking to charge the hybrid battery, as well as it acts as my alternator and starter motor)... I am not sure it the hybrid system plays into this at all, but I'd think putting my car in neutral while coasting would make the sound stop if it were the transmission, but it doesn't stop it from happening... Perhaps that doesn't matter. I'm not sure... Makes logical sense to me at least... I would also think putting the car I'm neutral rules out the engine as I disconnect it from the drivetrain as well...

It could also maybe be wheel bearings, suspension, or steering system related... Though I semi recently replaced the rear wheel bearing/hubs, and the car's tie rods... I've also considered wheel balancing, alignment, tires, etc... Tires look good, car again does not pull to any side, and I don't think it's a balance issue with any wheels, i know what that feels like. And this isn't that (i have an ever so slightly bent rim - so i am familiar with how a balance issue feels, usually a shaking in the steering wheel or front end shake when you get up to speed).. I'll have to look into suspension items like struts/shocks, but I got to think if it were suspension related, I'd feel the pulsating more than hearing it... Other thoughts are bushings, etc... But that'd cause more of a rocking/sliding forwards/backwards when going from a complete stop to moving, or vice versa... I suppose ball joints are another thought to be ruled out...

This leaves me with CV axles, which... None of the above rule out as the axles are always engaged and moving regardless braking, drive, neutral, etc... And maybe braking kind of "taps the axle back in place"... Hitting the throttle forces the CV joints to apply power to the wheels they're attached to... I will note, the boots look good, but the joints could still be bad underneath... 180,000 miles is quite a bit for original CV joints... I will have to mess with this tomorrow, jack the car up and try to see if I have any play in my axles...

The car is a 2014 Toyota Camry XLE Hybrid with just under 180,000 miles and has been well maintained mechanically, all maintenances performed religiously, if anything over performed!!! No check engine lights or any odd lights at all, the car never overheated, etc... Most of the car is original equipment outside of replaced tires, fluids/filters, light bulbs, tie rods, rear brake rotors/pads, rear wheel hub/bearings, A/C blower motor, and radiator/condenser fans, or certain miscellaneous exterior body parts from a few accidents I've been in... I also know my tires are properly inflated, in filled them all to 35psi per the door jam like a day or 2 ago...

Ita scary though because the rabbit hole that is Google, forums, etc. seem to point to a probable transmission issue - but I don't think that's it at this point...

I'll have to beg the wife to help me troubleshoot more tomorrow or at some point, drive the car so I can do more to listen for the source of the sound, to isolate it that way as well...

This is about every detail I can think of, and my train of thought along the way!!!

Tires look good

How old are the tires?

Have you tried swapping the fronts to the rear and vice versa to see if the noise persists?

Theyre probably a year or so old, and about 70% tread life left.

I have not tried rotating tires yet, but I rotate them regularly every 5,000 miles - last rotated them about 2,500 miles ago...

So today I jacked my front end of my car up, removed both wheels in the front, inspected everything, CV joints, suspension, steering, the wheels themselves... And I just didn't see anything that looked wrong... Put it all back together again... and since doing so, the noise inwas hearing seemed to have went away...

What gives???

Starting to wonder if I had a loose wheel/lug nuts or something... I didn't change or fix anything, only thing I did is remove the front wheels visually inspect a few things, turn the steering wheel each direction, checked forbany play in the axles, and put them back on, tighten/torqued the lug nuts down to spec, as I always do... I put the wheels back on the same way I took them off...

I'd be shocked if my wheel(s) were actually loose, but... I have no other answer for why everything seems fine now, unless somehow this is an intermittent issue...

I test drove it for awhile, no issues at all...

Soooo.... 🤷‍♂️

Sounds to me like you’ve earned yourself a beer..
