Toyota Screwing me?

{black}:fighting: Hi Scotty, this is Lawrence Moua over here in Fresno California. I’ve been a loyal customer of Toyota for the 24 years of my young life. My family and I only ever buy Toyota’s. I recently purchased a Toyota FJ Cruiser 2014 4x4 from Micheal’s Toyota, with 78,000 miles. When I talked to the salesman we agree’d apon having a tow-package for free installed in agreement to signing the contract. After all was said and done, the Used car sales manager calls me and says that they won’t do it and said regardless of the agreement, that they weren’t going to install the tow-package and we’re not going to sell me the SUV. Knowing how great the FJ cruiser is and the longevity of Toyota products, i suckered in and payed out of pocket for the Tow-package regardless. Now 5 months down the line I am trying to get a key-fob remote installed to it so I don’t have to go and use the key every time to unlock and lock the doors. I go into another Toyota dealership to get a key and alarm made. They tell me the key I was given is a Valley key which can not be copied and should have been given the masterkey. This was the only key I was given when I purchased the car. Now given that when purchasing a used car, they give me the only keys that they receive when they get the car. Shortly after that I call back the dealership I purchased the Car from and ask, why I was given a valley key and not given a master key? The Sales manager then accused me of losing the master key in order to make it seem like I got the master key when I purchased the car. As a dealership shouldn’t they know what keys are given out? As well as to know that when I’m purchasing a $40,000 car, I would at least expect it to be the right key? I’ve contacted the manager on several occasions and they have completely ignored me. I’m ready to make a complaint on the horrible customer service I have been given. What should I do next? I need your help.

Please keep in mind to delineate between Toyota and the Toyota Dealers.

Toyota is an amazing company with quality products overall.

Dealers, whether a Toyota Dealer or any other car brand Dealer, are absolutely horrible.

It’s the Dealership to blame, not Toyota

Take your complaint up the corporate ladder. Toyota Corporation can tell dealers to do the right thing (and the dealer will, if they want cars to sell).  I had success with them when a dealer tried to screw me out of $1500 worth of work that they didn''t do (though I did that with the phone and letters - it was while ago).

Start here, and select the "Dealership Service Experience" item : https://www.toyota.com/support/#!/app/ask

It's hard to believe that is the only key they had for it even if it was used. Did you say you paid $40,000 for this 2014 FJ Cruiser? They should make you a master key for that vehicle. By the way, it's Valet key, not Valley key.

Yes, I paid $40,000 for it. It came with rock sliders, TRD wheels with brand new Bfggoodrich All terrain ko2’s, front DC winch bumper with LED light bars and LED fog lights. The dealership on many occasions ignored me about the “Valet” key, knowing it was the only one they gave me. A dealership should be able to keep inventory of the amount of keys they give out when they sell it, but instead they accuse me of losing the master key when they didn’t give me on in the first place. I just hope they aren’t trying to milk my wallet, knowing I’m only 23 and try to charge me 500$ for a new master key when logically if I’m paying $40,000 for a car. I’d at least expect a right key, because now I am having trouble making copies because Valey keys are basically lemons.

Sounds like you got a nice one. What cheap bastards they are not making a master key for you at that price. I know these FJs are hard to find. If I was going to buy one I would look for a 2014 too.

Don't we have any customer protection rights in California for you to take legal action? I heard they were pretty strong.
