I have a 2015 Honda Accord hybrid with a cvt transmission (doesn’t shift like a normal transmission) with 64k miles and a 2013 Toyota Highlander v6 with 117k miles. To my knowledge, both cars were used and both run pretty problem free. However, I don’t believe the transmission fluid has ever been changed on either vehicle. I’ve seen your videos and I’m hesitant on doing it myself; but I know that in the Toyota’s case, since it has so many miles, I know that changing it now could cause an issue. So I guess the question is, should I change the transmission fluid in either of these cars? Both are daily drivers.
thanks,
j
You can change the fluid but do it at your own risk- there is no direct result after changing the fluid.
If you plan on keeping them, Then I would do a drain only on both and refill. BUT on the highlander, I would only replace with 2 quarts of new fluid, and put back the difference with the old fluid. This way the existing fluids get freshened up a bit with new fluid.
I would drain and refill both, based on their mileage. If changing the fluid does cause a problem, then you know there are issues with the trans that will need to be addressed. If there are no problems, then you know you did the right thing anyway.
