Hi I been watching your videos ! Thanks for making me not take my car to a dealer! I have a question on my 2010 dodge challenger Se 3.5.

when I put it on hear it lunges and jumps. When I go to drive it won’t shift gears. It wa s doing it once in a while nkw it’s definitely not shifting from first. My battery light is on for the alternator. I don’t know what to do!

I don’t know what to do!

First fix your electrical system problem. You have a computer controlled transmission and low voltage makes computers funny in the head.

Aside from that, when is the last time the transmission was serviced? (You didn't state mileage on the car.) What does the transmission fluid look like?

That's probably a 5 speed Daimler-Benz 5G-Tronic.

Welp, did you have the battery light back then?

I don’t know what to do!

You need a pro-level scan tool to see why the transmission has gone into "limp mode".

Note that these Daimler-Benz 722.6 often can have minor mechanical and/or electrical faults - but again, a pro-level all systems scanner (see our scan tool guide for information on scan tools) will allow you see if such a fault has occurred.

Hopefully you have been servicing the transmission (fluid and filter on these) at least every 40k miles - Incase the transmission dipstick is assessable, how does the fluid look? does it have chunks? sand like contaminants? any sparkling parts?

Also, I fully agree with @ChuckTobias , it's worth investigating the electrical issue before diving into the transmission - after all, that's a fully electronically computer controlled advanced German transmission and an electrical system fault can cause it to disable some functionality as a safe guard.

I would see what's the issue with the charging system, if it's not too expensive - remedy it, scan the TCM (transmission control module) for faults, take pictures, clear codes, remove the battery for 15 minutes, drive again, and see what fault codes appeared - from there you should be able to make an informed decision.

At best, it's just that alternator/charging system fault, at worst you'll probably just have to replace the tranny with a junkyard one if your 13 year old Challenger is in good enough condition that such an investment (up to a few grand) would make sense.

Good luck!
