Hey guys, I’ve got a 1988 Chevy C1500 with the 5.7L. Just today I was driving to work when my truck “popped” at me and the RPMS dropped to 1000 (I was sitting at about 2500) I got scared and let off the gas and pulled over. I checked the transmission fluid because I’ve got a small leak and it was low so I put some more in. On the way home from work, it kept on doing this, usually when I’d hit 2500RPM going about 40-45 miles an hour. I’ve got a deep sounding exhaust and when this happens it pops and has a hollow sound to it. I’m taking it to Firestone in the morning and would like something to tell him other than “I think it’s something to do with the transmission”. I should also say it idles fine.
Thanks to any who can help
Well of course you got to figure out where the pops coming from more often if it can't go a certain speed there's something wrong with the engine but it could also be in the transmission. When I get a vehicle like that I use my machine in my video finding the source of car noises Scotty. That can pinpoint any noise
It sounds like backfire when it happens but a lot less loud, the only way I know how to describe it is if you were to send metal flakes down a metal pipe along with backfire noises
